Please read Chapter 1 from Words Their Way (download from our course Web page),
pages 8-24. Look at the PowerPoint summary of this chapter.

Take notes about the characteristics of the different stages of spelling development. Then on your blog briefly summarize the key characteristics of each spelling stage:

Emergent (Preliterate)

Letter Name-Alphabetic (Early Letter Name and Letter Name)

Within Word Pattern (Within Word)

Syllables & Affixes (Syllable Juncture)
